Estë Privacy Policy
Estë is made by Byteshire LLC (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Estë app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
The short version
Estë does not collect your personal data. We have no servers, no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Estë plays audio files you already own: you gather them into a soundscape document, and the app plays them with fades and a sleep timer. It makes no network requests at all. We never see your files, your soundscapes, or anything about how you use them.
What Estë reads, and why
Estë reads an audio file when you add it to a soundscape — by picking it in the file browser, or by dragging it in. It reads the file to copy it into the soundscape, to show its length and size in the list, and to play it. Estë cannot reach into folders you have not opened: it runs in Apple’s App Sandbox with access only to the files and folders you explicitly hand it.
What Estë stores, and where
A soundscape is a document you create and keep wherever you like — on your device, in iCloud Drive, or in another cloud provider’s folder. Inside it are the audio files you added, as ordinary copies, and a small settings file that records the soundscape’s name, the order of its files, and its playback settings. That document is yours: it lives where you put it, and the provider that holds that folder continues to own its storage and syncing exactly as before. Estë keeps no library, no database, and no account of its own.
When you add a file, Estë first copies it into a temporary folder on your device, so the file can play right away and can be written into the soundscape when it next saves. Those temporary copies are deleted after a day.
What else Estë stores, on your device only, is small: your preferences (the fade lengths a new soundscape starts with), and the system’s own record of which documents you had open so it can reopen them. On a Mac that includes the security-scoped bookmarks macOS uses to restore access to a file you opened before. None of this leaves your device.
What the system shows while a soundscape plays
While Estë plays, it tells the operating system what is playing so that the Lock Screen, Control Center, and the Mac’s Now Playing controls can show the soundscape’s name and the current file’s name and offer play, pause, and skip. That information stays on your device and goes to nothing but the system’s own controls.
No analytics or tracking
Estë contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software. It does not collect crash reports itself and does not build any profile of you or your usage. If you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with Apple at the system level, Apple may send us anonymized crash reports through App Store Connect; those come from Apple, are not linked to your identity, and contain nothing about your files.
Children
Estë is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your control and data deletion
There is nothing of yours for us to delete, because we never receive anything. Deleting the app removes its preferences, its temporary copies, and its record of recently opened documents. Your soundscapes are untouched by this — they remain wherever you keep them, and the audio files inside them are ordinary files any player can open.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this address.
