Cirth Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 28, 2026
Last updated: July 28, 2026

Cirth is made by Byteshire LLC (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Cirth app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

The short version

Cirth does not collect your personal data. We have no servers, no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Cirth is an editor for Markdown and text files you already keep: it opens the files you choose, saves your changes back to those same files, and sends nothing anywhere. We never see your documents.

What Cirth reads, and why

Cirth reads a file when you open it — by picking it in the file browser, double-clicking it, or dragging it in. It reads that file to display and edit it, and nothing else. Cirth cannot reach into folders you have not opened: it runs in Apple’s App Sandbox with access only to the files and folders you explicitly hand it.

If a document is changed by another app or in a terminal while you have it open, Cirth notices and reloads it, so the version you see is the one on disk.

What Cirth stores, and where

Cirth does not keep its own copy of your documents. There is no library, no database, and no cloud account.

Your edits are written back to the original file, in place, wherever it already lives — on your device, in iCloud Drive, or in another cloud provider’s folder. That provider continues to own the file’s storage and syncing exactly as before.

What Cirth does store, on your device only, is small: your preferences (such as line spacing and where the document outline appears), and the system’s own record of which documents you had open so it can reopen them. On a Mac that includes the security-scoped bookmarks macOS uses to restore access to a file you opened before. None of this leaves your device, and none of it contains your documents’ contents.

Remote images in your documents

If one of your documents references an image by URL, Cirth loads that image so it can be displayed. That request goes directly to whatever server hosts the image — a request you initiated by opening a document that points at it. It does not pass through Byteshire, and we learn nothing about it. If you would rather no such request happened, don’t open documents that reference remote images.

This is the only network activity Cirth performs. It makes no requests to Byteshire at all.

No analytics or tracking

Cirth contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software. It does not collect crash reports itself and does not build any profile of you or your usage. If you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with Apple at the system level, Apple may send us anonymized crash reports through App Store Connect; those come from Apple, are not linked to your identity, and contain no document content.

Children

Cirth is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Your control and data deletion

There is nothing of yours for us to delete, because we never receive anything. Deleting the app removes its preferences and its record of recently opened documents. Your files are untouched by this — they remain wherever you keep them, in the same format any other Markdown or text editor can read.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this address.
